Jerod S. Sweat, a level 3 Sex Offender is wanted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department for failure to register and verify, a class D felony. Jerod Sweat is a black male with a date of birth of 5/25/80. He is 6’4, 230 pounds and frequents the Poughkeepsie and Beacon areas. Stabbing Suspect Arrested

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015 at 3:09 a.m. 911 received a call reporting a man stabbed outside 135 Mill St. City of Poughkeepsie Police, Fire and EMS responded and found a 33-year-old Poughkeepsie man stabbed multiple times in the left side. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery; he is expected to survive.The victim had been attempting to break up a fight when he was stabbed by QUENTIN BRANCH, a 24-year-old Parolee who was staying in Poughkeepsie. After stabbing the victim, BRANCH fled Poughkeepsie back to his home in Liberty, NY.Numerous witnesses rendered first aid to the victim and gave statements to police on what they saw and assisted in identifying BRANCH.On Thursday, Oct. 29, the New York State Police Violent Felony Warrant Squad and New York State Parole arrested BRANCH at his home in Liberty. BRANCH is being held on a charge of Assault 1st degree, a class B felony, pending his arraignment; he also has a Parole hold filed against him for violating his Parole.

This morning, Nov. 6, at 3:59 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police received a call from an alarm company reporting an alarm activation at Family Dollar at 617 Main St. Officers were dispatched. While en route, the alarm company called back and reported that they were monitoring the video from the store and observed a subject in the store stuffing items into bags. On officers arrival, the subject was still in the store and was taken into custody. He was identified as Kevin D. Longobardi, 22, of the City of Poughkeepsie. He was charged with third-degree Burglary and third-degree Criminal Mischief, felonies, and attempted Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor. He was held pending arraignment.

On July 21, 2015, Willie Trotman, a 37-year-old Wappinger Falls resident, was shot and murdered on State Street in the City of Poughkeepsie.After a lengthy investigation by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Detective Bureau in cooperation with the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, KAHEEM CUMMINGS, a 22-year-old city resident, was indicted for Murder in the 1st degree for shooting and murdering Trotman.Cummings has been in the Dutchess County Jail since July 31st after he was indicted and arrested for Robbery 1st degree for the robbery of a Newburgh Taxi Cab on Hammersley Avenue on July 13. Cummings and several other accomplices robbed a Newburgh Taxi at gunpoint and fled the scene. That incident was also investigated by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Detective Bureau in cooperation with the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.On June 30, 2015 at 9:40 p.m. Shameek Floyd was found laying on Mansion Street with a gunshot wound to the head. Floyd died on July 5th. The investigation into this murder is continuing. Man Arrested for Illegal Gun

On Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015 at 6:48 p.m., officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Neighborhood Recovery Unit were talking with a subject, later identified as KWASI HAMILTON, a 22-year-old city resident, on North Hamilton Street who initially gave the officers a false name.While speaking with the officers, HAMILTON suddenly fled on foot, pushing a nine-year-old boy between the officers and himself. While being chased by the officers, HAMILTON pulled a handgun from his waistband and threw it to the ground. HAMILTON fled through the Fallkill Creek before being taken into custody. The handgun was found to have its serial number removed.HAMILTON was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and 3rd, C and D felonies respectively, and Endangering the welfare of a minor, an A misdemeanor. He was arraigned and sent to Dutchess County Jail. HAMILTON also had warrants from the City of Beacon and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday, Nov. 6, 2015 at 10:07 p.m., officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department stopped a vehicle on Hudson Avenue. During the stop the vehicle fled, stopping a short distance away with the operator fleeing into a wooded area. A perimeter was set up by officers and a K9 unit. The operator was eventually located; during his arrest the operator physically resisted but was taken into custody.The operator was identified as DWAYNE LIGUORI a 53-year-old New Paltz resident. LIGUORI had a warrant from the Town of Lloyd. Additionally he was charged with Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Impersonation and Unlawful fleeing a Police Officer, all A misdemeanors. He was remanded to Dutchess County Jail.

On Monday, Nov. 9, 2015 at 2:19 a.m. City 911 received a call reporting a man shot, who was now inside the store at 386 Main Street. Responding officers found a 36-year-old city resident with a gunshot wound to his upper back. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated; his wounds are not life threatening.The incident first started in the rear of 138 Montgomery Street where the victim had been staying inside a garage that was converted into a recording studio. The victim heard several loud bangs, opened the door and was confronted by two subjects with guns. The victim began to flee and was shot and then pistol whipped as he lay on the ground. The victim fought with his attackers and was able to flee, running to Main Street.Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police Confidential Tip Line at (845) 451-7577.

Two Stabbed on Academy Street; Suspects in Custody

On Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015 at 12:18 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie 911 received a call reporting two people stabbed in front of the Guava Berry Grill at 22 Academy St. Responding officers found a 47-year-old and a 30-year-old, both city residents, stabbed. One victim suffered very serious wounds to his neck and chest; he is in critical but stable condition. The other suffered wounds to his abdomen and arm.Several witnesses called police reporting the two suspects running from the scene. Thanks to the witnesses both suspects were arrested a short distance away. The suspects are EDWIN PINTO-AGUILAR, 33 years of age, and ELIUD GIOVANI AGUILAR-LOPEZ, 34 years of age, both city residents. Both were charged with Assault 1st degree, B felonies.The initial fight happened in front of 22 Academy St. in the road and several vehicles had to stop because of the fight. Police Investigate Hudson Avenue Shooting

On Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at 1:23 p.m., City 911 received a call reporting a person shot at 120 Hudson Avenue, Building 6. Responding officers found the victim shot once in the left knee.Investigation reveals that the suspect, a heavy-set black male wearing a black jacket, gray pants and beige work boots, was walking north through the projects; he spots his intended victim riding a bike south through the projects towards him. As the intended victim on the bike passes the suspect, the suspect pulls out a handgun and fires several rounds at the intended victim, missing the intended victim but striking the bystander. The suspect flees north into the projects; the intended victim fled south. The bystander was transported to an area hospital where they underwent surgery. The wound is not considered life threatening.There were numerous witnesses to this shooting. Police Arrest two in string of Strongarm Robberies

  On November 25, 2015 three strong arm robberies were reported to the City of Poughkeepsie Police. The first robbery was reported at 1205am when the victim walked into Police Headquarters to report that he had been walking on South White Street when a tall white male punched him and held him down on the ground while a short black female went through his pockets taking his money and personal property. The second was reported at 1238am. Victim reports being assaulted on Maple Street by a tall white male. While being assaulted a short black female went through his pockets taking personal property. This victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. The third robbery was reported at 1240am. Victim reports he was walking east on Main Street from Main and White Streets when he was assaulted by a tall white male and while being assaulted a short black female went through his pockets taking several hundred dollars in cash. A short time later a witness called reporting the suspects were in the vicinity of Main and White Streets again. Officers responded with one of the victims who identified 29 year old KYLE LOUCKS a white male and 28 year old JAZMAN WILLIAMS a black female as being the two that robbed him. LOUCKS is a Town of Poughkeepsie resident and WILLIAMS is a City resident. Both were charged with one count each of Robbery 2nd degree a felony and Assault 3rd a misdemeanor. Both were held pending their arraignment. The investigation into the other two robberies is continuing. If you must store valuables in your car, they should be secured out of sight in the trunk or glove box. When shopping, park in well-lit areas, lock your vehicle, and pay attention to your surroundings. Do not leave purses, handbags, or cell phones unattended in shopping carts. Report suspicious persons or activity to store security personnel.

Man Arrested on Drug Charges

On Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) in conjunction with the City of Poughkeepsie Police Neighborhood Recovery Unit (NRU), executed a Dutchess County Court narcotics arrest warrant for Tyrone M. Morgan, age 41, of 109 Delafield St. The arrest resulted in the seizure of approximately 30 grams of crack cocaine and powder cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. Morgan was charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance (crack cocaine) a class B Felony (3 counts), and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (crack cocaine) a class B Felony (4 counts). Morgan was remanded to Dutchess County Jail pending arraignment in Dutchess County Court.

On Friday, Dec. 4, 2015 at 10:57 a.m., City 911 received a call from a homeowner on Lown Court reporting a male breaking into her porch and trying to open the house windows. The suspect fled the house prior to the arrival of police. However, a short time later a subject matching the description was stopped a short distance away. The homeowner identified him as being the person who was breaking into her house.The suspect, ANTHONY JOHNSON, a 20-year-old Kingston resident, was brought to Police Headquarters and interviewed by members of the Detective Bureau. JOHNSON admitted to today’s burglary and also to a previous burglary that occurred on Nov. 28. JOHNSON was charged with two counts of Burglary 2nd degree, a felony, and Criminal Mischief, a misdemeanor. He is being held pending his arraignment.

Search Warrant Leads to Drug Arrest

On Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit conducted a search warrant at 15 Academy St., Apt. 2. This search warrant was part of an investigation into illegal drug sales at the location. As a result of the investigation, officers recovered a quantity of “crack” cocaine and drug packaging materials. Shane E. Charles, 26, of 15 Academy St., Apt. 2, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony. Charles is being held at the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department pending arraignment in City of Poughkeepsie Court. Community members with information regarding drug dealing or suspicious activity in their neighborhood are encouraged to contact the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit at 845-451-4060.

City Police Assist in Wappingers Gun Arrest

On Thursday, Jan. 15, 2016, the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) in conjunction with the City of Poughkeepsie Police Neighborhood Recovery Unit (NRU), and Members of SP Wappingers, conducted a narcotics investigation which resulted in the execution of a search warrant at 21 Mill Street, Apartment #2, Wappingers Falls, NY. The search warrant resulted in the arrest of Savata M. Monroe, age of 42, and the seizure of two loaded handguns, described as a .38 caliber revolver, and a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol. Monroe was charged with two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, a class C Felony. Monroe was arraigned in the Village of Wappingers Falls Court, and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond. The investigation is continuing.

Man Arrested for November 2015 Shooting

On Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 at approximately 5:30 pm, members of the City of Poughkeepsie Detective Bureau, with assistance from the City of Kingston Police Department, located and arrested Phillip Luellen, 26, at 39 Van Deusen St. in Kingston, New York. Luellen was wanted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department for the November 23rd, 2015 accidental shooting of an innocent bystander near Building 6 at 120 Hudson Ave. Luellen is being held pending his arraignment at City of Poughkeepsie Court on the criminal charge of assault in the first degree, a class B felony.

On Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 at approximately 11:08 a.m. in the area of 165 South Cross Road in Hyde Park, NY, City of Poughkeepsie Police Detectives arrested Theodore J. Smith, 31, of Hyde Park. Theodore Smith is a Level 2 Sex Offender who had active arrest warrants for burglary in the third degree, a class D felony; and failure to register or verify his address (previously convicted), a class D felony. Detectives were assisted in this investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and Hyde Park Police Department. Smith was arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department has been receiving numerous complaints in the past couple of days in regards to IRS phone scams. A caller is phoning local residents in the City of Poughkeepsie and surrounding areas identifying themselves as representatives of the Internal Revenue Service a Division of the United States Treasury Department from several different phone numbers. The caller(s) are using different names and caller ID is showing different telephone numbers during the calls. Recipients of these calls are advised NOT TO PROVIDE any personal information to the caller.
